Hello/Bush & KerryReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook. Election Day is at hand -- and the polls are set to open within hours. In this program we offer you one last look at the candidates running for major office and the issues they've championed. We begin with the presidential race-- which is a nail-biter in many states, including here in New Hampshire. The latest WMUR-University of New Hampshire Tracking Poll shows the race for New Hampshire’s 4 electoral votes is too close to call. 49-percent of likely voters surveyed say they'll cast their ballot for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, 48-percent say they'll vote for President Bush and 1-percent say they'll vote for Ralph Nader or some other candidate. One-percent remain undecided. As the campaign winds down, the blitz across the battleground states continues at warp speed for both President Bush and Senator Kerry. New Hampshire remains in the thick of it. |
Kerry VoReturn to index of stories... |
John Kerry brought his campaign BACK to the Granite State on Sunday for the 3rd time in October. About 13-thousand people attended a rally for the Senator in Manchester. Kerry told the cheering crowd he was looking forward to Tuesday's election and to taking over the presidency from George W. Bush. Boston Red Sox team officials-- including John Henry and Theo Epstein-- joined Kerry and offered their endorsements. |
Bush VoReturn to index of stories... |
Speaking in Manchester Friday morning, Mr. Bush touted his economic record and said the United States would NOT relent in the war on terrorism and would continue the fight in Iraq. At the last minute, star Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling cancelled his NH campaign appearance with Mr. Bush. But he did record automated phone calls that will be made in the state through election day On Monday Schilling did make a "surprise" appearance in Willmington, Ohio at a Bush campaign rally. |
Kerry & SpringsteenReturn to index of stories... |
While President Bush turned to the Red Sox ace in his final full day of campaigning, John Kerry hopes Bruce Springsteen will bring him key votes in Ohio. "The Boss" will make yet another appearance with Kerry this time at a rally in Cleveland. Meantime, the Kerry campaign is taking one last opportunity to tell voters "online" that the Kerry-Edwards ticket is the way to go. The campaign Monday launched a new video called "Your Stories" featuring Kerry on the campaign trail talking about the people he's met along the way and the people he'll fight for in the White House. They hope the video is viewed by some 8- million people. After a final marathon day of campaigning, Kerry will return home to Boston Tuesday to cast his ballot and await election returns from around the country. Aides to President Bush say after he votes in Crawford, Texas Mr Bush will stop in Ohio to thank poll workers before going on to Washington to await returns. |
Intro Benson/LynchReturn to index of stories... |
Turning now to state-wide races in New Hampshire-- The latest WMUR/UNH tracking poll shows the Gubernatorial race is too close to call. 47 percent of likely voters say they will vote for Craig Benson, 46 percent say they will vote for John Lynch. Benson talked taxes and Democratic challenger John Lynch concentrated on integrity in a campaign highlighted by sharp personal attacks. Both men are former corporate chief executives. Richard Ager sat down with both men in the weeks leading up to November 2-nd. Here is some of what they had to say on the issues. |
Intro Gregg/GrannyReturn to index of stories... |
In the race for U-S Senate: Incumbent Republican Senator Judd Gregg still holds a commanding lead over his Democratic challenger Doris "Granny D" Haddock. Judd Gregg is running for his 3rd Senate Term. Haddock-- a great grandmother of 16-- has never run for major public office--but, she did make headlines 5-years ago when she walked across the country to promote campaign finance reform. Here's a portion of Richard Ager's interviews with both candidates. |
IntroBradley/NadeauReturn to index of stories... |
In the race for the First District Congressional Seat, Incumbent Republican Jeb Bradley holds a commanding lead over Democrat Justin Nadeau. Bradley is hoping to win a 2nd term in Congress. Healthcare and veterans issues dominated the race between Bradley and Nadeau. Here's some of what the candidates had to say to Richard Ager. 1:08-1:18 |
Intro Bass/HodesReturn to index of stories... |
The race in the Second Congressional District has also tightened, but incumbent Republican Charlie Bass still holds a wide lead over Democrat Paul Hodes. Hodes is making his first run for office while Bass is running for a 6th term. Both candidates disagree on economic policy and the War in Iraq. Here's part of their conversations with Richard Ager. |

Monday, November 1, 2004: We started by 5:15pm. We had to stop a couple of times to fix a couple of minor scripting errors. Then we had to re-do a sound bite that froze when we first aired it. While we were stopped we found out a machine ate one of our tapes. The machine was checked and we continued. Then we had to stop because Dawn got an update from Andy Smith that changed some of our election poll graphics -- including the graphic at the top of the show. We changed the scripts/graphics and started the show from the beginning again at 6pm. All went smoothly the second time around! We taped the extra promos and we finished by 6:45pm. |
